Safetysorb™ Zeolite can be used for the
odor control of manure and urea from dairy cows, feeder cows, horses, hogs, poultry,
pig farms and most other animals. Most of the odor from animal manure/urea
is generated from the conversion of ammonium (odorless) to ammonia gas
and airborne nitrates and sulfates. Safetysorb™ Zeolite will absorb
moisture and will hold the ammonium by two methods. First, it will
hold it in open pore spaces by adsorption. Safetysorb™ Zeolite will
hold up to 60% of its weight in water. Second, it will hold the
ammonium cation in the mineral lattice by a method called 'cation
exchange' (measured as cation exchange capacity or 'CEC'). In
absorption, the ammonium is held loosely and is water soluble, but in
the cation exchange position, the ammonium is not water-soluble but is
plant accessible. The amount of Safetysorb™ Zeolite required to
eliminate odor is dependent on the moisture and nitrogen content of
the manure/urea. Reducing the moisture content with Safetysorb™
Zeolite
generally reduces the fly and maggot larvae also. The more Safetysorb™
Zeolite used, the less the moisture content of the manure. Hog and
poultry manure are higher in nitrogen content than that of feedlot and
dairy cows. In general, 300 to 600 pounds of Safetysorb™ Zeolite are
used per ton of manure/urea. Consequently, more Safetysorb™ Zeolite
would be used for hogs and poultry. For odor, fly, and maggot control
the following procedures are recommended: Feed: Up to 2 percent
by weight of the feed for animals can be Safetysorb™ Zeolite. This not
only will assist in odor control, but will also counteract diarrhea,
as it is an effective mycotoxin binder. |
