Zeolite Household Uses

Our top grade zeolite produces amazing results for a variety of household applications, among them:

Kitchen

  • Control Refrigerator & Freezer Odors & Moisture
    • To neutralize odors and reduce moisture, which can save on your electric bill, place 1 - 2 cups of zeolite in an open container or in a breathable bag and place on the top shelf of refrigerator near the fan to ensure air circulation around the zeolite. Replace every 3 months. Disposal: RECYCLE

  • Absorb Spills In The Refrigerator
    • Sprinkle a small amount of zeolite, about 1/8 - 1/4 inch thick on the bottom floor of the refrigerator, under the bottom bin, to absorb spills or leaks from packaged meats. It even eliminates smelly fish and shrimp odors! Wipe away spills easily at your next cleaning. No sticky, smelly mess to scrub. Replace every 3 months or at your next regular cleaning. Disposal: RECYCLE

  • Cheese & Butter Bins
    • Place 1/4 - 1/2 cup of zeolite in an open container or in a breathable bag and place in the bin to absorb moisture and reduce the amount of spoilage. Replace every 3 months. Disposal: RECYCLE

  • Cabinets & Pantries
    • Place 1/4 - 1 cup of zeolite in an open container or in a breathable bag in the cabinet to absorb moisture and odors. Replace every 3 months. Disposal: RECYCLE

  • Cookie Jars
    • Place 1/4 - 1/2 cup of zeolite in a breathable bag in the cookie jar to absorb moisture and prevent cookies and crackers from tasting stale. Replace every 3 months. Disposal: RECYCLE

  • Trash Compactors
    • Keep garbage smells to a minimum. Sprinkle zeolite into the trash compactor between the layers of garbage. This way you not only compact your trash, but you also reduce odors. Disposal: RECYCLE

  • Fruit & Vegetable Storage
    • Put fresh fruit or vegetables in a gallon size, sealable, plastic bag along with 1/2 - 1 cup zeolite and seal (smaller amounts of zeolite may be used in smaller bags). Place the bag in your normal storage area for this particular produce, i.e. refrigerator crisper, countertop or cupboard. The zeolite will extend the life of your fruits and vegetables by absorbing ethylene gases produced as they ripen. Just remove produce as needed, rinse and eat. Zeolite is an all natural mineral and not harmful, but can be a little gritty if consumed. Be sure to reseal the bag. It works excellently on grapefruit, lemons, limes, oranges, tangerines and tomatoes. It also works well on apples, asparagus, avocados, bananas, cantaloupes, carrots, cauliflower, cucumbers, eggplants, green beans, figs, honeydew melons, leafy greens, lettuce, mangos, okra, peas, peaches, pears, peppers, plums, prunes, squash and many others.  Tip: For best results, start with a new plastic bag, fresh zeolite and fresh produce each time. If storing produce for extended periods of time, replace zeolite every 12 weeks. Keep only one type of produce in each bag. One bag of apples, another of bananas, another of tomatoes and so on. Do not store tomatoes or potatoes in the refrigerator. Do not store potatoes and onions together. They both emit gases that are detrimental to the other. Go ahead, give it a try on some of your favorite fruits and vegetables. You will be amazed at the difference it makes and delighted at the money you will save on spoiled fruits and vegetables.  Disposal: RECYCLE

  • Chemical Storage Cabinets
    • Dangerous cleaning chemicals are usually stored somewhere in the kitchen. Make chemical storage safer by first making sure that this area is inaccessible to small children and second by placing zeolites in this area. Most chemicals are stable in the containers that are provided by the manufacturer, but almost all contain warnings not to mix with other chemicals. Chemicals may become toxic when mixed. Sprinkle about 1/2 inch of zeolite in the bottom of a plastic tray or box and place chemical bottles on top. The zeolite will absorb common spills or leaks that may occur. Disposal: TRASH.  Follow all local and state guidelines for disposal of all chemical products.

  • Stored Perishables, Matches, Paper Plates & Cups
    • Matches, paper plates, other paper products and long-life food products should be kept in dry areas or they can deteriorate. As you know, zeolites love moisture. Place small breathable bags filled with zeolite in and around all stored perishables that have a label instructing you to keep in a dry place. Change each season. Disposal: RECYCLE

Living Area, Dinning Room
and Children's Rooms

  • Carpet & Upholstery
    • Works excellently to neutralize odors and absorb moisture from fresh spills on your carpet or upholstery. Immediately sprinkle an ample amount of zeolite over the spill. The zeolite will instantly start pulling the liquid from the spill and become saturated. Let the zeolite stand until it is completely dry. Depending on the size of spill and the amount of zeolite used, this may take up to 24 hours. Then vacuum up zeolite. For stubborn stains, re-wet and apply again. This technique also works well on old stains. To remove old stains wet the carpet or upholstery with a liquid carpet cleaner, upholstery cleaner or water and apply the zeolite, following the instructions above. Note: It is recommended that you always test an obscure piece of carpet or upholstery to make sure the color will not fade. Disposal: TRASH

  • Table Cloths
    • For a spill on your favorite table cloth, blot up most of the liquid and remove table cloth from the table. Lay the table cloth on a flat, non-porous surface (You don’t want to spread that red wine stain to another surface). Sprinkle zeolite over the wet stain. Let the zeolite stand until it is completely dry. Depending on the size of stain and the amount of zeolite used, this may take up to 24 hours. Discard zeolite and clean table cloth as usual. Disposal: RECYCLE

  • Mattresses
    • Remove bedding and launder as usual. Sprinkle an ample amount of zeolite over the urine-soaked area of the mattress. Let it set for approximately 12 hours and vacuum up. Amazing! The stain and odor are completely gone. Disposal: TRASH

  • Diaper Pails
    • Greatly reduce odor in your diaper pail by sprinkling zeolite liberally over dirty disposable diapers. Disposal: TRASH

  • Ashtrays
    • Works like magic at reducing tobacco odor.  Pour 1/2 inch of zeolite in your ashtrays to eliminate tobacco odors and aid in extinguishing cigars and cigarettes. Empty ashtray daily and add fresh zeolite. Disposal: TRASH

Bathroom

  • Medicine Cabinets
    • Are these still good? Check the expiration date on the label first to make sure. You may also see on the bottle label a statement such as "store in a dry place." Moisture can be detrimental to prescribed pills, aspirin and vitamins. Place small breathable bags in your medicine cabinets to keep all types of medication fresh. Replace breathable bags of zeolite once a year. Disposal: RECYCLE

  • Clothes Hampers
    • This is a nasty smelly place!  To neutralize perspiration and other odors, reduce moisture and deter mildew, place 2 - 3 cups of zeolite in a breathable bag in your clothes hamper. Replace every 2 months. Disposal: RECYCLE

  • Waste Baskets
    • Minimize odors and mess!  Place about 1/2 inch of zeolite in the bottom of waste baskets to absorb liquids and odors. Replace each time you empty the waste basket. Disposal: TRASH

Clothing and Shoe Storage

  • Closets
    • Keep closets smelling fresh! Closets can become musty smelling. To prevent this and to absorb other closet odors, place 1 - 2 cups of zeolite in an open container or in a breathable bag on the top shelf of your closet to absorb moisture and odors. Replace every 3 months. Disposal: RECYCLE

  • Cedar Chests
    • Cedar chests make clothes smell nice, but are you controlling the moisture that may be accumulating? Place 1/2 - 1 cup of zeolite in a breathable bag in the cedar chest to control moisture. Replace every 3 months. Disposal: RECYCLE

  • Adult & Children’s Shoes
    • The problem may be attributed to your shoes & not your feet! Place 1/2 - 1 cup of zeolite in a breathable bag in your shoes immediately after use. The zeolite will begin absorbing perspiration odor or moisture upon contact and extend the life of your shoes. Works well on athletic shoes, dress shoes, cowboy boots, work boots and goulashes. For best results, leave in the shoes overnight. Replace every 3 months. Make several pairs for everyone in the house. Disposal: RECYCLE

  • Gloves
    • Don’t forget those wet cold gloves! Place 1 - 2 cups of zeolite in a pair of inexpensive cotton gardening gloves and seal the ends. Place these in any pair of gloves that become moist or wet and leave overnight. The zeolite will begin absorbing moisture immediately. Works well on all types of gloves, even those expensive leather gloves. Replace every 3 months. Disposal: RECYCLE

  • Suitcases
    • Place 1/2 - 1 cup of zeolite in a breathable bag in your suitcase before storing to prevent musty smells. Replace every 3 months.  Note: When traveling, place a breathable bag of zeolite in suitcase to absorb odors. Disposal: RECYCLE

  • Seasonal Clothing Storage
    • This can save you some money! Place 1/2 - 1 cup of zeolite in a breathable bag in the clothing storage container. This will remove any moisture and prevent mildew stains on clothing. Replace every 3 months. Disposal: RECYCLE

  • Fabric Stain Remover
    • Oh no, not on your favorite shirt! For a spill on a piece of clothing, immediately blot up most of the liquid, lay the clothing on a flat, non-porous surface (You don’t want to spread that stain to another surface) and sprinkle the wet stain with zeolite. Let the zeolite stand until it is completely dry. Depending on the stain size and the amount of zeolite used, this may take up to 24 hours. Discard zeolite and clean the piece of clothing as usual. Disposal: TRASH

Pet Areas

  • Cat Litter Boxes
    • What an offensive smell! Can guests tell right away that you own a cat? This will completely do away with that offensive ammonia odor. Zeolites can be used one of two ways to control cat litter box odors. First, you may fill the litter box to a depth of 2 - 3 inches and use just as any other cat litter. Remember to remove solid waste as needed and completely change litter once a week, or as needed. Second, zeolite may be used as a cat litter enhancer by placing 1 inch in the bottom of the litter box and then filling with your favorite cat litter. Always replace zeolite when changing the cat litter.  Disposal: RECYCLE.  When using only zeolite in the litter box it may be recycled. Disposal: TRASH If used as a cat litter enhancer, follow the disposal instructions on the bag of your regular cat litter.

  • Dog & Cat Bedding
    • Do your pets smell soon after a bath? Check their bedding for the culprit! Eliminate odors from pet bedding by sprinkling an ample amount of zeolite over the bedding, waiting 15 minutes to an hour and then vacuuming up. For more stubborn odors, leave zeolite overnight before vacuuming. Note: To absorb odors continually, leave approximately 1/2 inch of zeolite on the bottom of pet house or cage. Disposal: TRASH

  • Dog Kennels/Pens
    • If dogs are kept outside, their area needs care too.  Sprinkle the floor with approximately 1/2 - 1 inch of zeolite to absorb ammonia odors from urine. Also, sprinkle fresh zeolite over puddles or solids as needed. Add new zeolite or replace zeolite weekly, or as needed. Disposal: RECYCLE

  • Pet Accidents On Carpet, Tile Or Cement Floors
    • New puppies are adorable, but housebreaking can be a challenge! Works excellently to neutralize odors and absorb urine from your carpet, tile or cement floors. Immediately sprinkle an ample amount of zeolite over the accident. The zeolite will instantly start pulling the liquid from the floor and become saturated. Let the zeolite stand until it is completely dry. Depending on the size of the accident and the amount of zeolite used, this may take up to 24 hours. Then vacuum or sweep up zeolite. Note: It is recommended that you always test an obscure piece of carpet to make sure that the color will not fade. Disposal: TRASH

  • Rabbit Cages
    • Little bunnies sure make a big mess! Sprinkle 1/2 inch of zeolite under bedding or mix with bedding in cages to absorb odors and moisture. Replace when changing bedding material. For outside, above-ground rabbit pens, place 1/2 inch of zeolite on the ground under the pen. Add fresh zeolite weekly, or as needed. Disposal: RECYCLE

  • Bird Cages
    • Would Polly like a clean cage? Sure she would! To make clean up easy, sprinkle 1/2 inch of zeolite in the bottom of bird cage. This will control odor and absorb moisture from droppings. Replace zeolite as needed or when cleaning bird cage. Disposal: RECYCLE

  • Hamster & Mice Cages
    • Keep those small critters dry and happy! Sprinkle 1/4 - 1/2 inch of zeolite under the bedding material in the cage or pen. Replace with fresh zeolite when changing the bedding material. Disposal: RECYCLE

  • Chicken Coops
    • This works great! To remove ammonia odor and wetness and create a healthier environment, sprinkle a layer of zeolite 1/4 - 1/2 inch thick on the ground of chicken coops. Replace or add new zeolite every 1 - 2 weeks. Disposal: RECYCLE

  • Aquariums
    • Reduce odors and the time spent cleaning your fish tank by mixing zeolite granules into gravel or charcoal filter systems. Rinse zeolite first to remove any dust particles. Mix equal parts charcoal/zeolite in filtering system. If granules are too small for placement in filtering system, place approximately 1/2 oz. of zeolite in a breathable bag in the tank (1/2 oz. per 25 gallons of water). Make sure the breathable bag is safe for aquarium use. Replace when changing the filter or water. Disposal: RECYCLE
